The 2020 Grand Design Imagine XLS 17MKE is a compact travel trailer that makes especially good use of its approximately 22-foot footprint.
Designed primarily around couples camping, the 17MKE combines a space-saving Murphy bed, large slideout, full kitchen, private bathroom, generous holding-tank capacities, ducted air conditioning, and an enclosed underbelly in a trailer with a published dry weight of 4,456 lbs.
For buyers who want something smaller and easier to manage without stepping down to a stripped-down camper, this used Imagine XLS deserves a close look.
Stock Number: TRADE11479
The Murphy bed is one of the most useful parts of the 17MKE floorplan.
Instead of permanently dedicating the front portion of the trailer to a bed that occupies floor space all day, the Murphy-bed arrangement allows that area to serve different purposes depending on how you're using the RV.
At night, you have a dedicated sleeping space.
During the day, the bed can be converted to free up additional living room.
That makes a noticeable difference in a compact couples trailer because the same square footage works harder instead of being committed to one purpose around the clock.
The single slideout expands the main living area once you're set up at the campsite.
In a trailer under 22 feet long, that extra width can make a meaningful difference.
It gives two people more room to move around the coach, makes the dinette area more comfortable, and helps the interior feel less confined during rainy days or longer camping trips.
The slideout and Murphy-bed design work together particularly well because both are focused on getting more usable living space out of a relatively compact trailer.
The 17MKE includes the equipment needed for more than snacks and quick meals.
Kitchen features include:
For couples taking multi-day trips, having a complete kitchen can reduce dependence on restaurants and campground cooking.
It also makes the trailer much more practical for extended weekends or longer vacations.
The Imagine XLS includes a private onboard bathroom with:
Climate equipment includes:
That combination gives the trailer more seasonal flexibility than many basic lightweight campers.
Additional equipment includes:
These aren't the reason to buy the trailer, but they add useful convenience once you're actually camping.
The exterior speakers and awning help extend the living space outside, while the backup camera can make maneuvering and campsite positioning easier.
Published unit information for TRADE11479 lists:
A trailer in this weight range may work with a variety of properly equipped tow vehicles, but towing suitability should never be determined by dry weight alone.
Check the tow vehicle's:
The actual loaded trailer will weigh more than the published dry weight once propane, batteries, food, clothing, camping equipment, water, and accessories are added.
