2026 Northern Spirit Compact 160BH
The 2026 Coachmen Northern Spirit Compact 160BH is a seriously impressive little family trailer. At only 16' 9" long and approximately 3,115 lbs. unloaded, Coachmen manages to fit bunk beds, a dedicated front bed, a full bathroom, kitchen, and plenty of everyday camping amenities into an incredibly compact package.
What we really like about the 160BH is that it gives a small family the important features of a traditional bunkhouse without having to tow a 25- or 30-foot trailer.
For first-time RV buyers, young families, or anyone who wants to keep their trailer short, lightweight, and easy to manage, the 160BH packs a surprising amount into less than 17 feet.
Exterior Length: 16' 9"
Exterior Width: 8'
Exterior Height: 10' 6"
Hitch Weight: 318 lbs.
GVWR: 4,318 lbs.
UVW: 3,115 lbs.
CCC: 1,203 lbs.
Fresh Water Capacity: 39 gallons
Gray Water Capacity: 30 gallons
Black Water Capacity: 30 gallons
The biggest reason we like the 160BH is just how much Coachmen has managed to fit into such a short trailer.
You get dedicated bunk beds for the kids while still maintaining a separate front sleeping area for the adults. The top bunk flips down and the dinette converts into a second bed.
That's a big advantage for families who don't want to convert their main sleeping areas every night and don't want to move into a much larger traditional bunkhouse.
At only 16' 9" overall, it's an incredibly efficient use of space.
The 160BH also gives the adults their own dedicated front sleeping area separate from the bunks.
For such a compact family trailer, having dedicated sleeping spaces makes a big difference. You can put the kids to bed in the bunks while still having a separate sleeping area at the opposite end of the trailer.
It's a simple layout that gives a small family exactly what they need without adding unnecessary length or weight.
One of the most impressive parts of the 160BH is that Coachmen still manages to incorporate a full bathroom.
For families coming from tent camping or a tent trailer, having your own bathroom is a massive upgrade.
It means you're not relying on campground facilities in the middle of the night and makes travelling with kids considerably more convenient.
At approximately 3,115 lbs. unloaded, the 160BH stays remarkably lightweight considering it's a proper family bunkhouse.
It has a 4,318-lb. GVWR, leaving an impressive 1,203 lbs. of cargo carrying capacity.
The hitch weight is also only 318 lbs., helping keep the overall package manageable for buyers specifically shopping for a smaller, lighter trailer.
Small doesn't mean stripped down.
The Northern Spirit Compact package includes an 8 cu. ft. refrigerator, tankless water heater, black-tank flush, battery disconnect, air fryer/convection microwave, 8,000-BTU A/C, Bluetooth portable speaker, spare tire, and solid entry step.
There's also solar prep with a 30-amp controller, with a 200-watt solar system available as an option.
That's an impressive equipment list for a trailer this compact.
The 160BH carries 39 gallons of fresh water, along with 30-gallon gray and 30-gallon black tanks.
Those are useful capacities for a trailer that's less than 17 feet long and give a family considerably more flexibility when camping.
Combined with the tankless water heater and black-tank flush, the 160BH gives you many of the conveniences you'd normally associate with a larger travel trailer.
The entire appeal of the 160BH is that you don't need to buy a huge trailer just because you have kids.
You still get dedicated bunks, a front bed, full bathroom, refrigerator, kitchen amenities, A/C, and useful storage, but everything is packaged into a trailer that's only 16' 9" long.
That makes it easier to tow, easier to maneuver around the campground, and easier to find a place to store when you're not using it.
