Fifth wheels with a bathtub
A bathtub is one of the rarest things to find in an RV, but when it shows up it's usually in a larger fifth wheel. Some are a tub and shower combo, others are a shorter, deeper soaking tub. And some are really just showers in disguise with some high sides on the bottom so make sure to check a photo to confirm.
Floor plans like the Open Range 3X 390TBS and the Sierra 4002FB show how differently builders work a tub into the bathroom.

Fifth wheel trailers with bathtub and...
Benefits of bathtub
- Much easier for bathing kids than trying to manage them in a small RV shower
- Actually lets you soak instead of being limited to a quick shower
- Can be useful for pets, especially a dog who found some puddles in the campground!
- Feels more like home and can make the bathroom feel considerably more residential
Things to consider
- Usually only found in longer, heavier fifth wheels
- Fills the gray tank quickly, which is a much bigger issue when boondocking or camping without full hookups
- Hot-water capacity matters — a traditional RV water heater may struggle to provide enough hot water for a genuinely full bath
- Takes up a big portion of floor space, will definitely cut into storage
Similar layouts
Most campers with bathtubs fall into one of two camps. A tub and shower combo is the common one, a full surround with a curtain or door where you can sit down or stand up, and is what families with small kids are usually after. A soaking tub is deeper and shorter, sometimes tucked into a corner, and it trades stretch-out length for depth. A few larger fifth wheel floor plans, like the Sandpiper 4002FB and the Chaparral Lite 368TBH, pair the tub with bunk space, which is the combination growing families tend to hunt for.
Good to know: a tub uses a lot of water and a lot of hot water. If you boondock, plan on filling the tub only when you have hookups, and consider how fast it will fill your gray tank. Full-timers with kids often say the tub is the feature they would not give up; weekend campers on full hookups get less out of it.
If a tub is on your list, it is worth comparing layouts that make bath time easier overall. Look at fifth wheels with two full baths so the kids' bath and the main bath stay separate, or fifth wheels with two bedrooms if you need the sleeping space to match. Shopping lighter? There are also travel trailers with a bathtub.
Popular questions
Can you get an RV with a full size bathtub?
Full residential-length tubs are rare, but fifth wheels come closest. Most RV tubs are shorter and narrower than what you have at home, though some large fifth wheel floor plans fit a deeper soaking tub.
How much water does a bath use in a fifth wheel?
More than you probably expect. A shallow bath can easily use 15 to 25 gallons, which is a real chunk of most fifth wheel fresh water tanks and fills the gray tank just as fast. On full hookups it's a non-issue, but boondockers tend to use the tub for kids and dogs rather than long soaks.
Do fifth wheel bathtubs have enough hot water for a bath?
Usually you'll be mixing. A standard tank water heater holds a limited amount of hot water, so a deep bath often means topping off with warmer water or waiting for a recovery cycle. Floor plans with a tankless water heater handle a longer soak better.
Is a bathtub worth it in a camper?
It depends on how you camp. Families with young kids and full-timers who stay put on hookups get real use out of one. If you mostly take short trips or dry camp, that same space could be a bigger shower or extra storage, so look closely at what the tub replaces in the floor plan.
