An L-couch (many shoppers call it an L-shaped sofa or a sectional couch) wraps around a corner of the living area, so you get more seating in the same footprint than a straight sofa. Some are theater-style with recliners on the long leg, and many hide storage or have a pull-out bed underneath.

You will see it in slide-out living rooms like the Brinkley Model G 3250 and the Jayco Pinnacle 38FBRK.

Benefits of l-couch

Things to consider

  • Less individual comfort than theater seating — usually no recliners, cupholders, heat, massage, etc.

L-couches show up in a few different formats, and the differences are worth checking on the lot rather than in the brochure:

  • Standard L-shaped sofa with a chaise or short leg, sometimes with a hide-a-bed for an extra sleeping spot
  • Theater seating in an L with power recliners and cupholders, which is comfortable but eats into floor space when reclined
  • Tri-fold or modular sectional with pieces you can rearrange or remove

Because the couch usually lives in a slide, sit in it with the slide in and out. Some floor plans, like the Alliance Paradigm 375RD and the Keystone Montana 3531RE, pair the L-couch with a big rear window so the seating faces the view. Others build the room around a fireplace or a kitchen island you can talk across while someone cooks.

Good to know: if you are full-timing and the couch is your daily desk and dinner spot, measure the seat depth. Deep theater-style cushions are great for movie night and awkward for working with a laptop.
