The Berkshire XL 40B is built around a Cummins ISL 380HP turbo diesel on a Freightliner XCR raised-rail chassis, a combination that owners consistently describe as quiet and capable on the highway, even if it's not a sprinter off the line. The Allison 3000MH 6-speed transmission and Sachs custom-tuned shocks do a lot of the heavy lifting for ride comfort, and the V-Ride rear suspension keeps things settled even with a toad on the hitch (rated to 10,000 lbs). Inside, the single full bath layout opens up the main living area considerably, and the vacuum-bonded sidewalls with block foam insulation keep road noise and temperature swings in check. The Carefree Latitude patio awning with LED lighting and wind sensor, automatic hydraulic leveling, and the "One Key" system for all exterior compartments are the kind of convenience features that make a big difference on a long trip.
